Spring Ahead

The cubs will probably be the story of the 2008 baseball season. If they manage to make the playoffs in back to back season it will be the first time Chicago (both squads) has made the playoffs two years in a row - -

1917, SOX - - - - 1918, cubs -- - - - - - 1919, SOX being the last time the greatest summer city in the world enjoyed consecutive trips to October (although technically I think the series in 1918 was played in September…weird eh)

…and the cubs are the only team to win in back to back consecutive postseasons (1907-1908) .

So I’m on record here saying that the cub will go to the playoffs this year and that’s all I will predict.

And if my prediction is right, for that sorry-ass franchise it will be a great accomplishment and almost as great as what my beloved SOX did in 2005, or at least almost as unbelievable.

But so far, the best story of spring training is Brian Anderson. Could it be that this big donkey finally gets it? He is doing all the right things with his bat and playing great defense. I will feel better about the team I love being outflanked by the cub for Coco Crisp if BA emerges as the SOX centerfielder for the next few years.

No matter what the cubs do this summer I will be so happy if my beloved SOX are strong up the middle - -

AJ

Cabrera

Anderson

It means that they are building the baseball team the right way.

Spring training is spring training, let’s see what BA does once baseballs are fired in anger.

Oh Ed-AJ is almost washed up (I bet he is dirty behing the ears)-He is no Posada or Posega. What were the two problems with the Socks last year? Hitting AND Pitching (Mostly bullpen woes)! What did Lil' Kenny Williams do? Trade a bona-fide winner (Garland) for a journeyman shortstop (Cabrera-Theriot like OBP)-he is the Juan Pierre/Kenny Lofton's of MLB shortstops.

So what of the bullpen????? Jenks?
Linebrink-I like him-I don't know what happened to him last year-probably a velocity thing. Dotel-Looked for the yanks last year, but still a head case. Somehow MacDougal is down on the list-He has Farnsworth type stuff. What was it last year that made them collapse last year? Guillen or age? It is an old bullpen outside of Jenks and Mac. There is something to be said about Yankee experience under Joe Torre. Those Yanks since have performed for other teams (Weathers/Stanton).

So what of the offense??? Crede or Fields? Is there a trade to the Giants for Matt Cain (He's good) or will they get stuck with Noah Lowry (poor mans version of Barry Zito when Barry Zito really, really sucks!) That's more pitching.

So what's the upside on the offense this year? None-They are getting old. Can Ozzie get them to perform like veterans with his style? NO WAY! He is Zambrano's older brother in disguise (Ozzie is). And there is no help from down below-all sold for the ring (probably worth it)

And-I expect the Yankees to win no more than 89 games under Joe Girardi (he inherited a good team)

But that's it-he will not handle that pitching staff well-especially all their youngsters
