Rumors Not Involving Fleetwood Mac

If the rumors turn out to be true and the SOX trade Paulie to the Halos for Chone Figgins & Urban Santana I will be perfectly pleased with Kenny’s off-season moves (with the possible exception of Scott Limbrenk…I can’t even spell his stupid name)

Figgins is a legit leadoff hitter who can play a bunch of positions in the field. Cabrera works best as a #2 and the SOX could bat Swisher further down in the order. I love Paulie and will never forget how great he was in the playoffs including his home run against the Angels in the ALCS and his homer off Chad Qualls in the World Series…but the SOX have a few players like him (Thome from the left side and Dye from the right)…& those guys clog the fuck out of the bases.

With Figgins and Cabrera at the top of the order, someone is more likely to get on base & the defense will have fewer opportunities to go into the Thome shift. At first it sounds crazy that the Angels would trade two decent players to get Paulie at this stage of his career…but they need a big bat to give some support to Vlad the Ball Impaler…especially with Garrett Anderson on the decline. Plus the Angels have always coveted Konerko and I will always be grateful to him for taking less money to come back to the SOX in 2006.

I might be talking out of my ass on some of this…and even if the SOX make this trade they still might not be as good as the Indians or the Tigers.

The SOX can move Fields or Swisher to 1st and have a viable and dare a say, diverse line-up for the 08 campaign.

I’m getting excited.

Dear Ed,
Get over the 2005 season already and all those invlolved and the nostalgia it brings-it's been only two fucking years. It's about winning now (in 2008) and not keeping around saps that will slow that down. Save your goodbye's for when these guys retire.
Sorry, but this constant whining about letting go of guys sucks.
Not to say they are not winners, but they are no longer winners.
The game and the teams need to keep moving on regardless of any bad press or nostalgia.
XOXO
Me

The "I love Paulie" and "I will never forget" statements were always followed by a "but"

In other words....despite my gratitude as a WhiteSOX fan for what he did, I'll be cheering this trade pretty damned loudly if it happens. I still think the Angels are eye-hungry for home runs and out of their minds if they make this trade. It's got to be more rumor than reality.

BUt a girl can hope, can't she?

Rule #1 is that if you're hearing rumors of a KW trade, then it's not gonna happen.

Besides Kotchman is as good as Konerko at this point anyway, so I'm not sure why they'd want to go after Konerko in the first place. Plus they have OFs (Anderson, Willits, Guerrero, Hunter, Matthews) to find time for...

This trade doesn't make much sense to me honestly.

But if we're going to dream, let's dream of Carl Crawford, shall we?

I'd love to dream of Carl Crawford...problem the Devil Dogs are not letting him go. Maybe the SOX could pry a Rocco Baldelli from the dopey Devil Domers but not Crawford.

Too bad, I'd love to see him play in SOX park

I like your chances with Chone and Crawford-both would be an asset to any team in the league...
Sorry, but Paulie has to go...and yes a girl can hope

It's too bad that the GM for the Devil Rays doesn't take serious offers and instead asks for the moon whenever a team shows interest in one of their players

Agreed. I love Paulie, but he's got a huge contract and some of his numbers are in decline. Plus he only plays first base - not the most vital position on the field.
