Wrigley Field Cubhubub

Are people really up in arms about the naming rights of Wrigley Field?

WRIGLEY FIELD!!!!

It’s fucking gum douchebags! What? It would be a crime to name the field after gum AND something else?

In the wake of the housing market slowdown, one of the sub-prime lenders should consider partnering with the cubs…

…hell, the cubs have been giving their downtrodden fans sub-prime baseball for almost 100 years.

Well duh! But that doesn't change the fact that the fucking park was already named after gum...why not add something else?

Corporate naming bullshit is the only thing that has helped make Sox park pretty...cuz they fucked that thing up when they originally built it.

In fairness, SOX fans that fought changing the name were even bigger idiots - - Comisky was a fucking cashwhore so be-hated by his players that they sold the World Series to that gambling guy from the Great Gatsby.

Once again, I think I have blurred the lines between reality and fiction but my point should be clear.

Yeah, but William Wrigley owned the team and paid for the damned park to be built.

It's just like the Field Museum was named after Marshall Field (department store magnate), who helped to bankroll its construction.
Would you be pissed if they decided to re-designate the Field Museum as "The SE Johnson Wax Field Museum"?

P.S. "Johnson Wax"

If US Cellular wanted a stadium named after 'em they should have built a NEW one for the Sox... Over in Gary Indiana, where it belongs.

I don't think the gum guy built Wrigley dude...it was originally a Federal League park - - I am no Chicago historian and have virtually no knowledge of the history of buildings but I seem to remember Wrigley RENOVATING the park and slapping his name on it.

I'll check later.

AND THE SOX AREN'T MOVING TO INDIANA ANY TIME SOON!

It was originally named Weeghman Park when it opened in 1916 (after the owner at that time).

As Wrigley took over ownership and built up the stadium from a dirt-lot bandstand to what it is today (more or less), he renamed it after himself.

Clarification:
The field opened in 1916 - Wrigley took over the club in 1918.

Just tear down the damn thing and dome it up to keep all the bad luck in.

I like the idea of the socks moving to Gary

The SOX are not moving to Gary!
